Add a product from a photo
Take or choose a photo on the Add a product screen and Pasal AI fills in a name, a short description and a category. You check them and type the price.
Instead of typing a new product from scratch, take a photo of it. Pasal AI looks at the photo and suggests the words. The price and the stock are always yours to type.
Fill a product from a photo
- Open Products and press Add product. The Add a product screen opens.
- In the Add from photo box, press Add from photo to open the camera, or Choose from your photos to pick one you already have. On a computer both open the file chooser.
- The button reads Reading the photo… for a few seconds. Then the box says Filled in from the photo and the form has a name, a short description and a category.
- Check every word. Pasal AI only describes what it can see. Correct anything it got wrong.
- Under Suggested highlights, tap the true ones are up to five short facts it could see, such as a colour or a material. Tap one to add it to the product's highlights; tap it again to take it off. Nothing there is added until you tap it.
- Type the price, and the stock if you count it. Then press Publish product or Save draft.
What it fills, and what it never does
- Category: it picks one of your shop's own categories, spelled the way you spell it. If none fits, it may offer a Suggested new category with a Use this button instead of filling it.
- Never the price or the stock. Pasal sends no price or stock with the photo, and the form has no place for the reply to put one.
- A price before saving. A product filled in from a photo cannot be published or saved as a draft until you type a price. Until then both buttons are off and the screen says Type the price before saving, with a Go to price link. A product you type by hand saves as usual.
- Your own words stay. Anything you had already typed in the name, description or category is kept, and the box says so.
- A second photo replaces what the first photo filled in, as long as you have not changed it. Words you typed or edited stay. Highlights you tapped from the first photo are taken off; ones you typed stay.
- The photo becomes the product's first photo when you save, so you do not need to add it again.
Your photo and your privacy
Before the photo leaves your phone or computer, it is shrunk (at most 1,600 pixels on the long side) and saved again as a new picture, which removes its location and camera details. It is then sent to Anthropic, the company that runs Pasal AI, with your shop's name, trade and area and the categories you already use. No price, stock or customer details go with it. Nothing is saved on your shop until you press a save button. See the Privacy Policy.
Plan and daily allowance
Add from photo is part of Pasal AI, which comes with the annual Pro plan. Without it the buttons are shown but greyed out, with a line saying so. Each photo read counts as one of your daily Pasal AI questions, the same allowance as the chat. If you run out, it says so; try again tomorrow, or type the details yourself. It needs the internet.
If it cannot read the photo
- "Pasal AI could not see a product in that photo." Take another with one product in view, filling most of the frame, on a plain background. Leave out people, hands, screens and other items.
- "That is not a photo Pasal can open." Choose a JPEG, PNG or WebP photo.
- "That file is too large (over 30 MB)." Choose a smaller photo, or take a new one with the camera.
- "You have used today's Pasal AI allowance." Try tomorrow, or fill the form yourself.
The rest of the form works as in Manage your catalog. To write a description for a product you already have, see What Pasal AI does for you.
- Manage your catalogAdd products, photos, prices, and take items off the shelf when you are out of stock.
- What Pasal AI does for youAsk a question in your own words and get an answer from these guides and your own books. It never writes a figure itself.
- Prepare a clothing product for your website and InstagramAdd a consistent photo gallery, accurate details, size stock and a product code customers can send in a DM.
