How Pasal is tested

You trust Pasal with your counter, your khata and your books. Here's what we do before any change reaches your shop.

1,600+

automated tests on every update to the website

3

automated reviews on each larger change, then the founder's own

Checked

to the paisa, on the desk and on the website

Every update is tested first

Every update to the website must pass more than 1,600 automated tests, in more than 120 test files, before it goes live. It must also pass more than 50 check scripts, a check that the website's code fits together, and a full build. If even one fails, the update doesn't go out.

Database changes and server functions are put live separately, by Pasal's founder.

Pasal Desk, the desktop app, passes 1,092 automated tests of its own. They run every time a change to Pasal Desk reaches Pasal's main code, and Pasal's Windows version is only built after all of them pass.

Tested on a real database

27 test files start a real database inside the test and run Pasal's own database code in it, read straight from the files Pasal's database is built from. Some start from exact copies of the code Pasal's live database was running on 13 October 2026.

How we check each change

Since 4 October, we put each larger change through three separate automated reviews before it is accepted. Anything they stop, we fix before it goes any further.

We also break a test copy of Pasal on purpose, never a real shop, to prove the tests notice. In one week of October 2026 we planted more than 800 bugs this way. When one slips past the tests, we usually add a test to catch it.

Then Pasal's founder reviews changes personally before they reach your shop.

Getting your money right

Your bills have to be exact, so we test them hard. Some of what we checked in October:

  • 750times we cut the internet while a bill was being sent. Not one bill was charged twice.
  • 2,888Khata bills made on the desk, each worked out again by our server. Not a single difference.
  • 13.4 milliontricky amounts that end in half a paisa. The desk and the website worked out every one the same way.
  • 24,487table bills worked out by both Pasal Desk and the website. The one rounding difference this found, we fixed in Pasal Desk 1.0.35.
  • 209,177Khata balances drawn on screen. A customer who had paid in full never once showed “owes NPR 0”.

The tests keep growing

Tests are code too: small programs that run parts of Pasal and check the answers. The more test code there is, the more of Pasal gets checked.

Lines of test code in Pasal's main code history
  1. End of July955
  2. End of August14,899
  3. End of September21,835
  4. 14 October (two weeks later)57,036

Until 12 October some work, much of Pasal Desk's tests among it, was kept outside that history, so part of the last jump was written earlier.

By 14 October 2026 there were about 57,000 lines of test code, in more than 130 test files and 50 check scripts for the website and 36 test files for Pasal Desk.

Built with real shops

No software is perfect, and we won't pretend Pasal is. Pasal has 33 shops besides our demo shops. When a shop owner tells us something broke, we fix it, and most fixes now come with a test so the same bug doesn't come back.

Every figure on this page is as of 14 October 2026.
