Scan a barcode with your phone camera

Point the phone at a packet and the counter adds it. Stocking a shelf works the same way, one scan per packet.

Your phone can read a shelf barcode. There is nothing to install and nothing to buy, and it works in the two places a barcode is any use: at the counter while you are ringing a sale, and on Products while you are putting a box of packets on the shelf.

At the counter

The counter's search box reading Search, scan, or use the camera, with a scan button on the right
The counter's search box, and the camera button beside it.

Open the counter and press the scan button at the right of the search box. Point it at the packet and hold steady; it reads by itself, blips, and the product joins the bill. The sheet stays open on the live view, so the next item is another point rather than another tap.

If nothing in your shop wears that code, it says so and tells you what to do about it: sell it by name for now, and give it the code later under Products. It never invents a product for you mid-sale.

Stocking the shelf

The Products tab toolbar with an Add product button and a Scan to add button
Products, Scan to add: one scan per packet, in a loop.

On Products, press Scan to add. Scan a packet and Pasal asks only what the camera cannot see, a name and a price, then saves it and goes straight back to the live view for the next one. A box of thirty packets is thirty scans and thirty short forms, with no reopening and no asking for the camera again.

A code that is already on one of your products never opens the form. It tells you whose it is and what it costs, which is the useful answer when the packet in your hand is already on the shelf. One code sells one product, so two products can never share one.

Editing a product, the Barcode field has its own Scan button that fills the box and closes. Rescanning the product you are editing is not treated as a duplicate of itself.

Your USB scanner has not changed

A USB scanner works exactly as it always did. It types the digits into whatever box is focused and presses Enter, so at the counter it finds the product and adds it, and in the Barcode field it fills the box. The camera is an addition for whoever does not have a gun in their hand, not a replacement for the one you own.

If the camera is refused or will not open, the message says so and you can still type the code. Nothing in either screen depends on the camera working.

A scanned loyalty card names the customer

The counter's camera reads your loyalty pass too. Scan the card on a customer's phone and it attaches them to the bill by name, so their points and any reward are on screen before you take the money. A card from another shop is refused there and then. See The card in your customer's phone.
