Show your business details and e-commerce listing number

What the Electronic Commerce Act 2081 asks a shop that sells online to show, how to apply to the Department of Commerce, and the switch that shows it on your shop.

The Electronic Commerce Act 2081 asks every business that sells through a website, an app or social media to list with the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection, and to show its details on its site. Pasal gives your shop a place to show them. Pasal does not apply for you, and it cannot tell you whether your shop meets the Act. Read the Department's notice if you are unsure.

What the Act asks a site to show

Section 4 of the Act, as published by nepallaws.com (a secondary source; the Department's notice and the Act itself are what count), lists nine things. Where each one comes from on Pasal:

  • The platform's name. Your shop's name, already on every page.
  • The business's name, address, the kind of registered entity and its registration number. The registered name, registration office and number, and registered address in the business details below.
  • The main, registered and branch office addresses. The registered address is in the business details. Write a main office or branches that differ from it on your About us page.
  • Any special licence the business holds. Write it on your About us page, with its number and the office that issued it.
  • Whether you sell your own goods or are an intermediary for others. Say it in a sentence on your About us page, for example that you sell your own stock directly.
  • PAN or VAT number. In the business details.
  • A customer-service contact. Keep your phone or WhatsApp filled in under Settings, Shop details: your shop's footer and About us page already show it.
  • A named person who takes complaints, and how to reach them. The complaint contact in the business details.
  • The e-commerce listing number. In the business details, once the Department gives it.

Apply to the Department

  1. Open the Department's portal at online.doc.gov.np and use the sign-up button for e-commerce firms. You need an email address and the mobile number of a director or the proprietor; a code is sent to that phone.
  2. Log in with the mobile number, tick ई-कमर्स, search your shop's name, and press +ई-कमर्स रजिष्टर if nothing is found.
  3. Fill in the firm's details and the directors' details, then upload the documents the form asks for, such as the application letter, the registration certificate, the PAN/VAT certificate, the citizenship copies, last year's tax clearance and, for a company, last year's company update letter from the Office of the Company Registrar. Give your shop's Pasal address as the platform address.
  4. The Act says the Department gives the number within 7 days of a complete application. The Department replies by SMS or on the portal dashboard.

Show the details on your shop

  1. Open Settings, Shop details and go to Shown on your shop page (Electronic Commerce Act).
  2. Check the registered name, the PAN and the address. They start as copies of the legal name, PAN and address on your bills; change them here if they should read differently. Add the registration office and number and the complaint contact.
  3. Under E-commerce listing choose Applied, waiting while you wait, then Listed and the number once it arrives. Showing Applied tells customers you have applied; it is not a listing.
  4. Turn on Show my business details on my shop and press Save business details.

Where they show

A short block in your shop's footer, on every design: the registered name, PAN/VAT and the listing number. Your About us page and your Terms page show every detail you filled in. Your default terms also name the business.

What stays private

The legal name and PAN on your bills are never published by this. Only the copies you save here are shown, and only while the switch is on. Turn it off and the details leave your shop at once.

  1. Add your own 360° photos or a 3D product modelLet shoppers rotate a set of product photos or explore a GLB model, alongside the usual gallery.
  2. Make the shop look like yoursTemplate, colours, logo, hero photo, and the order of the page, all from the Design tab.
  3. Preview a look before you save itTry a card in Browse designs, check the Not saved bar, then save the look or discard the trial.
